Will your monitor setup actually work?

An arm can fit the screen while the laptop still cannot send it a picture. Check mounting and USB-C separately before you order.

Check my setup
One setup, two separate checksA monitor on an arm above a desk connects to a laptop. The mount path and the video and power path each need their own evidence.AA · MOUNT + DESKB · VIDEO + POWERB

Hold: seven checks still need evidence.

Use the exact laptop, monitor, arm and desk specifications. Your answers stay on this page and are cleared by Reset or a fresh page load.

Select an answer only after you have found it in the maker’s manual or measured the desk. Verified yes means supported for your exact combination; No means this combination fails; Unknown is not a yes.

Gate A · physical fit

Will it mount safely?

Use the monitor’s weight without its stand. Check the specific arm and desk, not a category average.

Confirm hole pattern, recess/adaptor and the exact arm plate in both manuals. Maker example.
Include attached accessories and any maker limits for deep or curved screens.
Confirm the desk maker allows a clamp or grommet at this spot. Check material, thickness, load guidance and under-desk clearance; glass or hollow tops may need a different plan. Attachment examples.
Compare the arm’s travel and your planned screen position with the product drawing.
Gate B · signal and power

Will the laptop drive it?

A USB-C-shaped socket may carry data, power, video, or a combination. Read the exact port and monitor input specifications.

Check for DP Alt Mode or supported Thunderbolt video in the laptop manual. Data/power-only USB-C is insufficient. Dell support example.
Check the correct video input, cable direction, resolution and refresh rate for the complete path. Include every dock or adapter. A cable charging successfully does not prove video support. Lenovo explainer.
For one-cable charging, check the monitor’s Power Delivery output, laptop input requirement and cable power rating. A lower-power connection may not sustain the laptop under load. If you will use a separate charger, mark yes after confirming that plan.

A worked decision

Fictional setup: a laptop L, monitor M and arm A. The manuals confirm mounting hardware, load range, desk suitability, reach, laptop video output and the separate-charger plan. Only the cable’s supported video mode is unknown.

Verdict: Hold. Six checks pass; check 6 is still unknown. The missing cable/mode evidence means the setup is not yet cleared. If the laptop manual instead says its USB-C port is data-only, the verdict becomes Skip this combination even when the arm fits.

For the mount side alone, use our monitor-arm finder and arm specification guide. For the workspace, use the desk-fit worksheet. The finder narrows physical candidates only. Use this checklist to check the complete setup before ordering.

What this check can and cannot tell you

This is a pre-purchase screen, not a hands-on test or a maker compatibility certificate. A “ready to shortlist” result still needs the exact model manuals and seller return terms. Specifications can change by revision or region.
